GMail doesn't care about full stops

With so much concern around email phishing scams and privacy it's been mildly concerning over recent weeks to have been receiving some emails clearly intended for someone else, such as kids birthday party invitations, school camp notifications and magazine subscription receipts/renewals.

These emails have been arriving at one of our GMail accounts which I set up using the firstname.surname convention, however the "To" address in each errant email has not contained the "." (full stop).

It turns out, Google / GMail doesn't care about the full stop. So, firstname.surname and firstnamesurname are the same thing = One Account. Who knew?

Well this guy did! . . .There ya go!

And, as is pointed out here - this "feature" is actually helping protect our security and identity.

In fact, it would seem plenty of people knew... Just Google It!

So now, clearly, someone (or quite a few people) have the wrong email address in their address book and somewhere in the world there's a disappointed young child who missed out on a birthday party a few weeks ago :-(
